Pope Francis has been in the audience with the President Salva Kiir Mayardit of the Republic of South Sudan.
The Vatican Press Office said on Saturday that, the Holly See discussed peace progress and the permanent ceasefire in the country.
The Holy See spoke about good bilateral relations with South Sudan emphasizing the contribution of the Catholic Church in the area of education, health, reconciliation and reconstruction of South Sudan.
However, The Holy See expressed willingness to visit South Sudan but declined to name a specific date owing to the current insecurity situation in the country.
The Vatican said this is not the first time the Holy See expresses an intention to visit South Sudan.
In 2017 he was about to make an ecumenical visit in the company of the Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, but it was cancelled because of the ongoing conflict in the country.
