Health Authorities in South Sudan encourage citizens to get jabs and dispel fear!
Juba, PR, MP 06 April 2021
South Sudan has started the roll-out of the AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19 on Tuesday.
The Minister of Health, Elizabeth Achuei, who got the first jab, urged the citizens to welcome it and get the jabs, on offer.
In a media statement, Achuei encouraged the people of South Sudan to dismiss the circulating rumours and not to worry, adding this vaccine will save lives.
Dr Pawil Arop Yor, the Acting Director at Juba Teaching Hospital, one of the first front line health workers who got the jab expressed saying,
‘…I, feel privileged and safer and I can now treat my patients with the better assurance of my safety as I continue observing all the Covid-19 preventive measures.’
The vaccine rollout, however, started with the front-line health workers. It would extend to elderly persons and those with underlying conditions as per schedule.
It’s worth mentioning that South Sudan had requested 2.4 million doses from the Vaccine Global Access, but it has received recently 132,000 AstraZeneca vaccine.
The country is yet to receive 600,000 to inoculate about 40% of the 12 million citizens at this round.
