Nairobi, PR, MP 30 May 2019
President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya has urged President Kiir and the entire leadership of South Sudan to show more flexibility, willingness and sense of self-denial in resolving issues preventing the people from enjoying the fruits of the hard-won independence of South Sudan.
“Peace is possible, but there must be an intention to have peace. The people of South Sudan need it to get the services of the freedom they fought for.” Kenyatta said.
The statement came while addressing a huge gathering of dignitaries, foreign diplomats and elites of Kenya during the occasion of the ‘National Breakfast Prayer Day’ in Nairobi on Thursday.
Kenyatta, however, assured the people of South Sudan of the support they need. According to him, Kenya will always be ready to help the people of South Sudan attain stability.
On his part, President Kiir said he is committed to ensuring that his country attains total stability adding that he had initiated a national dialogue process through which peace could be achieved.
“Peace is possible, but some leaders are busy fighting one another for power, while innocent citizens are suffering,” Kiir remarked.
President Kiir expressed optimism that the future is promising for the dream of a prosperous nation where South Sudanese will play a role in the affairs and unity of East Africa. He concluded.
The ‘National Breakfast Prayer Day’ is Kenya’s annual gathering to allow politicians and elites to come and pray together reflecting on the future of the country’s wellbeing and prosperous future prospects.
