NAS accuses SSPDF of attacking their Positions in Equatoria

Lainya, Juba, PR, MP 28 May 2019

Reports from South Sudan say the government forces ‘SSPDF’ have attacked the positions of the National Salvation Front ‘NAS’ in the Central Equatoria Region.

In a statement released to media on Monday, the spokesman of NAS, Suba Samuel Manase said, the government forces had without any provocations attacked their positions at Lainya and Wounduruba in a fresh escalation of conflict in the area.

Manase added saying, his forces, however, managed to push back the aggressors after having suffered heavy losses in terms of lives and materials.

He described the attack as part of Kiir’s campaign to force NAS accepts what he described as “surrender to the unrealistic peace agreement.”

There was no reaction on the government’s side to deny or affirm this development in Equatoria.

Last year, IGAD’s Chief Negotiator, Ismail Wais called on Gen. Thomas Cirillo, Leader of NAS, the holdout group to sign and join the revitalized peace agreement, but Cirillo declined to join. He vowed to continue struggling until all the conditions which made him rebel in the first place are removed.
