Kiir: Machar is no longer my enemy!

The President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit has invited Dr Riek Machar to come to Juba saying he’s forgiven him.

In his speech to mark the opening of the National Legislation Assembly on Tuesday, Kiir said Dr Machar is no longer his enemy because of the process through which they underwent together during talks and mainly their experience in the Vatican.

He further said the world leaders are expecting them to keep the nation at peace after years of civil wars arguing that peace partners should work together to rally people behind for final peace realization in the country.

Kiir, however, elaborated on reviewing the National Pre-Transitional Committee for possible compromise. He said, Riek should come to Juba, but instead he pushed for six months’ extension which was accepted globally. Kiir said, on his side he wanted an extension of a one-year period to iron out the remaining outstanding issues and to allow for smooth implementation of peace.

Kiir, however, admitted that South Sudan is going through a critical time. He said he stands for peace and rejects war.

It’s worth mentioning that both parties were supposed to form the Government of National Unity last week because of their failure to resolve outstanding issues.  Six months’ extension, however, will allow the government to do more for the sake of peace implementation in the country.
