The government of South Sudan has broken silence denying involvement in the murder of Aggrey Idri and Dong Samuel Luak.
Aggrey and Dong who were active members of the SPLA-IO have reportedly been kidnapped from Nairobi and flown by a chartered plane to Juba on January 23, 2017.
In a report concluded recently by the UN Panel of Experts on South Sudan that Aggrey and Dong were executed at a Luri base by the National Security agents shortly upon arrival from Nairobi.
Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch called for an independent investigation into the extrajudicial killings mainly, the murder of these two outspoken opposition critics.
In reaction to this news, the Information Minister Michael Makuei said if there any investigation, it should start with the Kenyan Government.
“It’s not the government of South Sudan that apprehended them; it’s the Kenyan government. So, if there are investigations underway, then Kenyan government should be investigated, not us,” Michael Makuei told a local media.
Makuei added saying, “These are reversed situations; these targeted misleading questions are not acceptable.”
He further said the only person who was apprehended by the government of South Sudan is James Gatdet who was convicted by a Juba court and later pardoned by the President last year.
