Nuer Showdown!

Nuer showdown!

By Gwado J. Ador

South Sudanese will never test peace or coexist as one nation as we might have hoped because some leaders of certain communities are still having prejudices against one another. They are yet to score and settle their long-standing differences with each other.

Though bitter wars which have just been concluded had cost South Sudanese hundred thousands of innocent lives, still our leaders have not yet learned the bitter lessons from the recent past.

Some reckless leaders among the people of South Sudan are still working to provoke more fighting among innocent civilians. Thus, the current peace deal might not sustain because of a hidden agenda, which made civilians suspicious and wary about peace durability.

Over the majority of South Sudanese are speculating that this brief relative calm would be breached soon by those who don’t want to see peace is prevailing in the Republic of South Sudan.

There are threats looming over most parts of South Sudan because of irresponsible statements and actions being taken on a daily basis while the entire nation is praying for peace.

Should mediators stop going the extra mile to address all the hanging issues, we will see the Republic of South Sudan reverting to another round of fresh conflict which will consume the remaining lives. Who knows to what extent will Kiir’s insanity lead us this time around?

IGAD and its friends must follow and observe every detail in the agreement. They must work to oblige all the signatories involved in peace-making and to implement and respect the recent deal to the letter and the spirit of the revitalised agreement.

Mediators should also reach out to the holdout groups by addressing their well-founded fear and grievances, including the issues of land grab, in addition to the unresolved controversial number of the states which was just left hanging in the air.

It’s apparent that leaders on the side of the government are troublesome; some of them don’t want peace; they only relish the continuation of the war which will secure them the continuation of jobs and wealth.

Previously, they have been thriving in such a condition until some of them became millionaires, and now it’s obvious that they don’t care about where South Sudan is heading to, It’s none of their business!

They are certainly victorious because they have the money that would buy them support, including military hardware to overpower and outmanoeuvre their enemies in the battlefield.

Kirr’s system could buy even foreign mercenary, including all the wicked elements among other tribes to shut-up.

Yes, every community in South Sudan isn’t short of wicked supply, people who are ready to betray their own communities. They give up themselves cheaply so that they are used against their own people for the sake of food and comfort.

Dinka strategists, however, believe that they have firmly sealed the issue of Nuer. Some have been openly boasting that Nuer have been neutralised for now, because they will be busy fighting among themselves in the next coming period.

They said, having succeeded to force Nuer into submission, they will see Riek dropping some of his conditions. Riek will accept going to Juba this time without huge forces or bodyguards that would worry Dinka and give them another headache they wouldn’t want to experience again!

Experiments have already been carried out by Dinka strategists among some key leading Nuer figures in Juba and the results were proven successful.

Dinkas have found out also that Nuers are not united because some elements among them are vehemently staking hate against the return of Dr Riek Machar to the political scene in Juba.

If Riek comes back, then for sure they won’t be part of his favourites on his good books. Certainly, some of them would be reduced to the level of beggars on the streets of Juba.

President Kiir managed to create a rift between Taban Deng Gai and the Governor of Liec State Monytuil whom Taban believed to have been working very hard to undermine his authority.

The row between the two Nuer leading figures was hazardous in which Monytuil narrowly escaped imminent death trap recently in Juba. Also, Taban’s bodyguard was reported to have been shot dead by an unknown sniper outside his residence in Juba.

Again a problem was stirred up to replace Gathoth Gatkouth with Gen. James Hoth Mai as minister of Public Service. Both leaders come from the same area in Eastern Nuer. The situation which was created by president Kiir caused animosity among the people of East Nuer.

Thus, East Nuer were divided into two opposing groups ready to fight among themselves. Tension is festering within the Nuer community in Juba. Some of them have reached out all ready to rally support from fellow diehards so that they prepare for showdown tooth and nail.

Dinka members, on the other hand, have been advised to keep out of Nuer’s internal problem. For now, Dinka wouldn’t want to provoke any problem with Nuer who will call for unity against Dinka as before.

Although, Dinka have distanced themselves from Nuer internal politics. But still were working underground to provoke more rift where ever possible using money and positions as leverage to keep Nuer political forces wrangling among themselves.

A scenario has already been set to discredit Dr Riek Machar as soon as he sets foot into the soil of South Sudan to assume power as the First Vice President in Juba.

Taban and his group among them Ezekiel Lul Gatkouth are destined to go on a rampage to challenge Dr Riek Machar’s leadership as soon as he takes an oath of office.

Already Taban Deng Gai and Tut Kew Gatluak have presented themselves as credible alternatives to vie for Nuer leadership. They would be set to challenge Dr Machar in his claims as to the only leader of Nuer chosen by the Prophet Ngudeng to lead Nuer people into salvation.

In fact, those Nuer conspirators have worked out how this would play out, they succeeded in winning President Kiir’s support on their side to discredit Dr Machar wherever opportunity avails.

People like Taban Deng Gai and Tut Kew Gatluak, including others who are playing into the hands of Dinka opponents are ever ready to work against Dr Machar and his supporters.

According to Taban Deng Gai that Riek is unworthy to hold Ngundeng’s Rod (Dang) as he claims as the only Nuer was chosen for leadership. Taban believes that he carries also the same characteristic set by Ngnudeng, he is capable to lead his Nuer folk into the promised land.

This group is out using all tactics and avenues of power provided to them by Kiir and his Dinka cohorts to outs Machar. They will persistently work to undermine Machar’s leadership until he leaves political arena disgracefully.

Dr Riek’s image and status within his Nuer fellow leaders have dropped. He is regarded as a weak leader who has failed to rally behind him the entire Nuer people in their struggle for Nuer ‘Naath’ interest in South Sudan.

Kiir’s role in this conspiracy would be minimal, just ‘to play cool’, he will keep his distance from Nuer’s row. Instead, Kiir would hypocritically show sympathy towards Dr Machar as his partner to stabilise peace and harmony among the people of South Sudan.

As usual, Kiir would play innocence and present himself as an honest broker for peace among the Nuer fighting sections in Juba. In fact, Kiir strives to keep out of a direct confrontation with Nuer for time being as long as they are busy confronting one another over positions and resources.

As president of South Sudan, Kiir was certain that all Nuer would be vying to attract his support against one another. Kiir will play the game by soothing Nuer’s sentiments while working to add more fuel into the burning fire.

However, the political theatre in Juba would become toxic. It will witness more rifts among Nuer leaders who would be busy conspiring against each other on a daily basis. In total Nuer have many groups who are not united and some are fighting one another.

Nuer have Riek’s Group, Peter Gadet group, Changson Chang group, Taban Deng Group, Tut Kew Group, Gathouth Gatkouth Group, Prof. Dechyanj group and many other splinter tiny groups.

In secret, President Kiir would make sure that his leadership supply enough support in kind and in the material to those Nuer who would want to challenge and undermine Dr Machar’s authority so that he is reduced to the level of nobody.

In a spiralling of events, some Nuer groups have prepared to wait and to deploy every mischievous tactic that would help them win the debacle among themselves.

Each group among the conspirators would separately work hard to win the confidence of President Kiir who would in turn demand services in return, including accepting dirty duties of sending Nuer sons and daughters into the battlefield as part of ‘joint mission’ to fight against comrades of yesterday as it was evident in the recent attack against NAS forces in Equatoria.

Thus, Nuer will be busy fighting against one another on one hand and be mobilised to fight against other communities on the other. This is part of their obligation to win the trust of Kiir and to become a junior partner in the politics of domination and occupation of other people’s lands.

While Nuer are dancing to the tune of divide and rule, Dinka was preparing to open yet another fresh fronts against those who are still resisting their claims for domination and transformation of South Sudan into a Dinka State.

Dinka is on the lookout for the next target in the list so that South Sudan submits in its entirety to them without any opposition to remember and the obvious target, for now, is ‘Shilluk or Collo people’.

Follow ‘part two’ how Collo people were ambushed and driven out of motherland and why their areas were destroyed at the expend of an obvious enemy.
