Peace deal at risk if parties still drag feet at states level!

Juba, UNMIAA, PR, MP 08 May 2020

UNMISS chief, David Shearer has urged South Sudan peace partners to complete the remaining peace process as quickly as possible.

In a press conference on Thursday, he told reporters that any further delays in the formation of the state governments might lead to the security breakdown. A situation already on the increase across the country.

The recent defection of senior officers from Riek 's IO to Kiir’s side is showing a lack of confidence within the unity government.

Though Covid-19 pandemic might interfere with the plans of the peace process, but still, the appointment of governors and the formation of the assembly should proceed as expected to ensure implementation of peace in the country.

In September 2018, all parties had committed to end the conflict and share power in a government of national unity.

So far they have managed a step but failed to reach a formula on the distribution of power at the states levels.

A situation that might take the belligerents back to square one.
