No resolution on outstanding issues, no peace in South Sudan
Juba, PR, MP 08 Oct. 2019
Lack of goodwill to resolve pending issues may take South Sudan to square one concluded many political observers familiar with South Sudanese affairs.
Formation of a join national army, numbers of the states and their boundaries have remained flashpoints that may derail peace implementation in the country.
South Sudan, however, is expected to witness the formation of a transitional government of the national unity by the 12 next month.
Earlier, President Salva Kiir Myardit announced going ahead with the formation of the government of the National Unity with or without Dr Riek Machar leader of SPLM/IO if he doesn’t show up in Juba.
On Tuesday, Dr Lam Akol Ajawin, leader of National Democratic Movement NDM broke ‘SSOA’ umbrella Alliance announcing non- participation in the upcoming government. He told local media that SSOA has yet to decide its position individually.
Ajawin explained saying, ‘the government is dishonest and now trying to dodge key provisions in the agreement by focusing on the formation of a unity government only.’
Machar's opposition group, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-In-Opposition (SPLM- IO), on Monday rejected a push for a transitional government as per time schedule before pending issues are resolved.
The United States, however, called on the parties to the peace agreement to settle outstanding issues, saying it wants to see an inclusive transitional government in South Sudan.
